Bailey Short was born and raised in South Louisiana. He’s been an avid angler his entire life and spent his whole upbringing in the coastal marshes of the state of Louisiana . Guiding was an easy decision for Bailey when the time came as he was already getting on the water as much as possible. The Louisiana marsh is a vast fishery full of all different types of water. that behave differently throughout the year. His dedication and appreciation for the fishery lead him to better understand the yearly cycles of the marsh and ocean conditions. This understanding of the ecosystem is what has moved him to one of the best guides in the south.
Before Bailey was 21, he was teaching Fly Fishing classes to locals and traveling customers in groups through Orvis. This is something he transfers into guiding often and tries to educate anyone who steps on his skiff whether it be about the fundamentals of fly fishing, or the advance tactics to making every redfish you get a shot at engulf a fly!
When I met Bailey it was instantaneously that I could feel this appreciation and energy for this fishery. It was easy to ask him to be on board. It is my passion to be out in the Louisiana marsh and catch the fish that haunt our waters. I hope to share this amazing experience with you and show you some new things along the way. There is always something to uncover out here, and it’s usually pretty awesome!
We at Waters First are excited to have him and the team just keeps getting better!!

From as early as I can remember I have loved the taste of salt on my lips and smell in the air. Even having been raised on the beaches of So Cal the surfing Mecca of the world, my passion was deeply tied to what could be caught with my 9’ fly rod. Oft a day was spent chasing schools of bonito down the countless number of jetties available.
My college years were spent at the University of Santa Barbara, earning my Bachelors in Philosophy. My focus remained, spending every possible moment on the water, watching my backing disappear on yellowtail, mako sharks, and the pelagic fish that roam the Pacific. I have continued this passion traveling the world in search of species have yet to catch, deciding to focus on one of the most prolific fisheries in the world, New Orleans.
Having fished with Greg many times, his passion for providing you opportunities to not only catch a lot of fish but have shots at world records (big fish) is unmatched. Pairing this unwavering excitement with Water First Rods is an obvious choice!
Welcome Greg to the Water First Fishing Family.
